Visit to Borra Caves, Vizag

We were all so exceited to go to Borra Caves as it is huge and natural. It is believed that this cave was 150 million years old. The humic acid in the water eracts with the calcium carbonate in the limestone and dissolves minerals breaking the rock gradually. We saw stalactites but not stalagmites. Some of the stones looked like a human brain , a crocodile or a ghost. The green and yellow lights  made my eyes flash as I walked into the mysterious , dark, rough and wet path. The dark cave was as dark as space and the lighted areas were like far away planets.  It was an amazing experience.

Visit to Thotlakonda (the Bhuddhist place)

The Thotlakonda is basically a Bhuddhist complex. The Indian Navy discovered this site. The excavations which lasted from 1988 to1992 were classified into 3 groups , Secular, Religious and  Civil. This includes the stupas, chaityagrihas, congregation halls, drainage and the stone pathways.

Visiting Submarine Museum in Vizag.

This submarine was used in the war by the Indian Navy. It was made in Russia and brought to India in  one and a half years time. This submarine told me how to listen to sounds and check if any enemy is coming towards them. I also saw how a real submarine looks like. It has many operators, no windows to see through, a hole to escape or to fight and long torpedo's to kill the enemy people.

This is my first time I have ever seen a submarine which was used in the war!

Visit to Konarak Temple

It was a hot sunny morning, when we were off to the Konarak Sun Temple. This temple was built by the Eastern Ganga king, Narasimahdeva in the 13th century in Konarak (Orissa). This means that this temple was made because they wanted to worship the sun God to get a healthy son. The meaning of Konarak is that Kona is corner and Ark is sun, corner of the sun.

This temple is shaped like a chariot and has 24 wheels for 8 different stories. There are 7 horses for 7 rainbow colours and different sandstones and it is a symbolic temple dedicated to sun God.

The carvings and sculptures are mainly of deities, musicians, birds, beasts, aquatic animals and mythological figures. It is mostly full of sympathy, kinship. affection and of the spirit that inspires the early Buddhist. The carvings are also of geometrical patterns and figures. The most common animals are, elephants, lions, and horses. The half- human and half serpent depict the strength and supernatural characteristics.

I had a feeling of awe when we arrived in this temple. I felt I had an amazing experience of seeing something so old and massive!
